Weekend Treat!

fresh rolls

Om nom nom nom … my wife is doing a Cordon Bleu course at the moment, and these are the kinds of goodies I am getting. Life is tough!

On another note, here’s a streamable version of Rampage Turbo 15; proper post and download link coming next week, but for now wrap your ears around this:

Freeformaniacs Round 8 – Pearsall presents Rampage Turbo 15 (31/01/2013) by Freeformaniacs on Mixcloud

Of course, I would be remiss to not include in this post the two other great mixes that have already been done for Round 8 of Freeformaniacs:

Slight change of plans for tomorrow

So, as it turns out, the Freeformaniacs show won’t be running tomorrow, due to a problem with streaming it. No matter! My mix will be appearing here tomorrow lunchtime for everyone to enjoy. Keep your eyes peeled.

In other news, my next Freeformaniacs show will be on Thursday the 6th of December, so for that one I will be doing something a bit different – I’m going to borrow some cdj’s and do a mix of actual modern freeform. Really!

Here are a few tracks which will be featuring on that mix:

This Thursday on Freeformaniacs …

So, you voted! And you voted for me to do a Stage One Music tribute in honor of early trancecore/freeform pioneers the Stage One Music Company.

As I am a man of my word, I am very proud to say that this Thursday at 10am I will be premiering Rampage Turbo 13: A Stage One Music Special on the Freeformaniacs show on Krafty Radio.

As ever, it will be available to download here on Sonicrampage the day after.

Make sure to tune in!

Thanks for your donations!

Soundcloud Pro

I’d like to thank all of you who have donated so generously to Sonicrampage. I’ve now raised enough to upgrade my Soundcloud account to the Pro planthanks!

There’s a little money left over, which I am putting towards my next donation goal: paying for this site’s hosting, which will be several hundred dollars when my contract renews in February.

Why donate? Well, pretty simply to support the whole Sonicrampage project: great mixes from across the dance music spectrum, nicely packaged, and with thoughtful essays, interviews, and photos to accompany them. If you enjoy this site, and can afford to give something to keep it running, I would greatly appreciate any contribution, big or small.

What do you get for donating? Well, first and foremost you are supporting what I do and helping to ensure that this site remains a great resource for the global dance community, as well as ensuring that I can continue to post new mixes from myself and guests.

More specifically, however, if you donate you will also get heads up on new mixes before they go live, as well as the occasional special mix that won’t be going live on the site at all. I haven’t yet done one of these, but by Christmas there will be a special donors only mix done and distributed.

So thanks again and I hope you enjoy the two new mixes coming this week!

Join me for some dubstep action next Friday at the opening of Vinylpimp in Hackney Wick!

Vinylpimp Shop, Hackney Wick

Join me this Friday at the opening of the Vinylpimp shop in Hackney Wick, East London. I’ll be playing from 7:30 to 8:30 (I believe) and I’ll be digging in the crates for some deep dubstep action, similar to what I put together a few months back for my Behind The Mask mix:

More words about this mix:

(This mix is) a bold journey into the depths of my record shelves for some of the choicest dubstep sounds, both anthemic and obscure …

Conceptually, well, there is no concept – I wanted to do a dungeon-style mix of my own, in the same vein as most of the dubstep mixes I’ve been listening to for the last year (like Widowmaker’s Winter Mix, which was featured here a few months back), so, per the process described in my diary of a mix I took out a big stack of records and then whittled them down to a svelte 23 tracks, which I then hacked together in just over 50 minutes. Tunes wise, the mix is deep, dark brooding halfstep for roughly the first 15 tracks before switching up into some more propulsive beats, finishing on a melodic note with the sweet synths of Zomby’s Test Me For A Reason …

I would say that dubstep, especially at the deeper end, is the perfect accompaniment to commuting in London, because, unlike some of the more manic forms of dance music (which, needless to say, I love!), it is, by nature, pretty meditative, which makes it an effective shield against the unpleasantness of commuting in London – the squashed bodies, the delays, the hanging around (it doesn’t help with the outrageous prices, though).

I hope you can join us!

Other dj’s:

Alex Celler (Cinematic, Cécille, Area Remote)
Miro (Sunday Muziq)

Pick My Next Freeformaniacs Mix!

it's not your fucking birthday

… But it is your chance to pick what I do for my next Freeformaniacs mix, which will be broadcast on Thursday the 13th of September so vote now!

<a href="http://www.sodahead.com/entertainment/what-mix-should-i-do-for-my-next-freeformaniacs-show/question-3143895/" title="What mix should I do for my next Freeformaniacs show?">What mix should I do for my next Freeformaniacs show?</a>

In case your memory needs jogging, every few months I do a new mix for the Freeformaniacs show on KraftyRadio.com, and this time I wanted to do something a bit special, a bit different, which is why I’ve come up with two concepts, Nu Energy B-Sides and Stage One Early Trancecore Goodies.

New London Acid Techno Mix for 7D The Seven Dimensions of Euphoria Vol 6!

My old skool London acid techno mix for the sixth edition of 7D The Seven Dimensions of Euphoria is now available at the 7d site. Go get it!

7D The Seven Dimensions Of Euphoria 6
Direct link to single mp3 version
Direct link to split track version

I’m particularly pleased with this mix. It was recorded in one take using nothing but vinyl, and I really locked in to the vibe as I mixed and cut my way through 90 minutes of some of the finest 303 abuse ever committed to wax. There’s something really hypnotic about this music, and I went deep into the zone as I did the mix, varying my mixing style from deep long mixes to quick mixes, moving through tracks seamlessly sometimes, whilst others working my way through with cuts and spinbacks, suddenly switching the basslines for maximum surprise. No simple segues for me! The mix itself slowly builds the intensity up from rolling acid to ravetastic warehouse stompers to fully-fledged squat-smashing mayhem, as the acid lines layer and layer and layer until you think your mind can’t take any more, only to find that things have gotten even crazier, and you just can’t get enough of it …

If you enjoyed previous London acid mixes from myself like Squat Rocking 2, Squat Rocking 3, and Pearsall’s Acid Test, then you will love this!

Special shout to Steve from 7D for offering me the chance to do the mix!

Please Donate to Help Keep Sonicrampage Awesome!

money

After four years of running Sonicrampage, after having done dozens of mixes and written all kinds of essays, and after having never asked for anything in return, I would now like to make a small request. If you are someone who has used and enjoyed the site – whether fir the music, the essays, the pictures, or the whole package – I would greatly appreciate it if you would consider making a donation to help me keep running the site.

For the last four years I have paid for this site out of my own pocket because, well, it’s my hobby, but it has become more expensive as the site has gotten more popular and more people have come to download the mixes … which is obviously a good thing! However, it does cost money to pay for the server and for my Soundcloud account, and as I am a family man I would really appreciate a contribution to help keep this site a fun, non-profit musical enterprise, based around exploring old and new dance music.

At the moment, Sonicrampage offers dozens of hours of underground electronic music entirely for free, which is something that I am proud of, and I have plans to make the site even better and offer even more content, however I will need a little financial help to make it a reality.

One thing that I can promise you is that that the donations would be used purely for the upkeep of the site.

How would I spend the donations? Initially, I would like to upgrade my Soundcloud account from Solo to a Pro account on Soundcloud, so that I can continue to provide a Soundcloud option on all new mixes (see here for more info on the various account types). Then I would like to put money towards paying my annual hosting fees, which doubled this year after my hosting company Inmotion forced me to upgrade to a Virtual Private Server to better handle the amount of traffic and resources that it was using. As I would be surprised to get even that much money, I haven’t thought about what I would do once the hosting was paid for! I wouldn’t spend the money on myself or my family, as the donation button is purely for the upkeep of the site – I would just put it against future hosting costs.

Thanks for reading this far, and please consider donating if you can afford it:

Eurotrash 4 is coming very soon, and my acid mix for The Seven Dimensions of Euphoria will be available sometime later this month!

Who’s Up Next? Forthcoming Guest Mixers on Sonicrampage

London rainbow

Although Sonicrampage is primarily a website devoted to my own mixes, I also love asking other dj’s to contribute their own guest mixes to the site, and by now I’ve got a nice collection of mixes from other dj’s, covering genres as disparate as dubstep, techno, old skool ardkore, hard trance/hard house, and freeform hardcore. Personally, I’m always listening to mixes and checking out new dj’s, so I thought it would be nice to give you guys a little introduction to some of the dj’s who will be contributing guest mixes this year.

First up (since I am doing this in alphabetical order), is Dubloke, a bass music dj from London that I first encountered on DSF; I’ve asked him to contribute an instrumental grime mix similar to my own Drop The Hammer 8 and, well, this:
