If you’ve been following Sonicrampage for a long time, or even for a short time, you’re probably aware that I love fast music.

I like to make mixes that start fast or somewhat fast, reasonably fast, you could even say generously paced, and then, well … they get faster and faster and faster.

What I haven’t typically done in my DJ career has been to make mixes that are more mellow.

So let’s change that!

Maybe it’s because I’m getting older, but I’ve recently started to enjoy more downtempo sounds again, and so I decided to make this mix., which is actually the first full downtempo / trip-hop mix that I’ve ever recorded.

Why did I call it ‘a short window to chill’? Well, basically because I actually had a very short window to make this mix!

Every summer we take a trip to Nova Scotia, Canada for a family vacation, and this summer I decided to record this mix literally the night before we flew out – we were packing and things were chaotic, but I wanted to make the mix, so I grabbed a bunch of records, threw them on the floor, and put this together.

White knuckle stuff!

Overall I’m very happy with it – I think it turned out really well considering that I don’t normally DJ this style. Honestly the mixing is quite tight and the mixes work very well, with a bit of an exception later in the mix – the David Holmes remix skipped, so I had to get it back in time, and the mix into the Beastie Boys was kind of abrupt. But that’s ok! I’m happy with it; I hope you enjoy it too.

If you’re eagle eyed, you’ll notice that most of these were actually released on drum n’ bass labels. Most of these are b-sides, because I don’t actually have a huge collection of downtempo stuff. Sometimes you work with what you have!

Let me know if you liked the mix; planning to do more like it in the future.
