This mix was the second in the Maximalism series, the idea of which was to combine techno with hard trance into a single coherent mix where the genres inter-mingled. In the end this probably wasn’t as good as the previous edition, as much as anything due to track selection, as I think that the last third doesn’t hang together so well, with the Arpeggiators track, in particular, sounding weird after the DJ Amok one since it has such a softer kick drum. The first two-thirds are very good though!

As with the other parts of the Maximalism series, this mix features mostly older tracks, mostly from before the millennium. There’s some cool stuff on here, including the Superspy track, which is the German trance legend Oliver Lieb under an alias, as well as the Mirage track, which is by the mighty Michael Kores. Possibly my favourite track on here is the awe-inspiring Pagemaster track ‘Drug Center’, which is probably one of the greatest acid techno records ever, pounding away in a minimal fashion for minutes while the tension builds to an unbearable point before unleashing an absolutely filthy 303 assault … awesome!
