in fact I&#8217;m such a fanboy that I&#8217;ve already done two tribute mixes to his own (prodigious!) output (<a href=\"https:\/\/sonicrampage.org\/blog\/2018\/12\/pearsall-presents-full-metal-jacking-a-jerome-hill-tribute\/\">Full Metal Jacking<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/sonicrampage.org\/blog\/2021\/11\/pearsall-presents-the-further-adventures-of-count-jackula-a-second-jerome-hill-tribute-mix\/\">The Further Adventures of Count Jackula<\/a>), as well as a tribute mix to his most excellent retro-styled label, Super Rhythm Trax (<a href=\"https:\/\/sonicrampage.org\/blog\/2020\/01\/pearsall-presents-super-rhythmic-facts-a-super-rhythm-trax-tribute\/\">Super Rhythmic Facts<\/a>), so for the third mix in my <a href=\"https:\/\/sonicrampage.org\/blog\/tag\/there-and-back\/\">There &amp; Back mix series<\/a>, I decided that it was time to do yet another Super Rhythm Trax tribute, because, well, the label has put out tons of cool tracks, and I wanted to listen to them while walking around. <\/p>\n<p>Sometimes you don&#8217;t need a more complicated reason than that!<\/p>\n<p>With this mix I literally pulled out my whole Super Rhythm Trax collection (and it&#8217;s a big one) and organized it roughly into three piles and then used that to make a mix that has three sections:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Funkier, chunky, bleepy house stuff<\/li>\n<li>Proper late 80&#8217;s acid house revival &#8211; smell the Vicks Vaporub!<\/li>\n<li>Jacked-up, intense, house with a techno edge<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As with the other mixes in the series, this was done in one take, because, ah, I can&#8217;t be bothered to do it multiple times any more.<\/p>\n<p>I wanted to do a proper survey of the label&#8217;s output, so as well as two tracks from Mr Hill himself, there&#8217;s also tracks from a wide range of producers, including the sadly departed Andreas Gehm from Cologne, Glasgow&#8217;s Fear-E, American multi-genre chameleon Chrissy, Venezuela&#8217;s Cardopusher, Type-303 from Denmark, Berlin-based Luca Lozano, Michigan&#8217;s Jared Wilson, and Londoners like Dexorcist, Dance System, and Masc (I don&#8217;t know where the others are from, sorry).<\/p>\n<p>I think it&#8217;s a good and fun mix, and I hope you enjoy it!<\/p>\n<p>As a bonus, here&#8217;s some snippets from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.juno.co.uk\/junodaily\/2024\/03\/27\/juno-daily-in-the-mix-interview-jerome-hill\/\">a recent Jerome Hill interview<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>YOU\u2019VE BEEN A DJ FOR 30 YEARS, HOW DIFFERENT IS THE SCENE NOW FROM WHEN YOU STARTED?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Being able to have thousands of tunes in your pocket at every gig is a pretty massive thing, as DJs can be a lot more flexible on the night. Infact I\u2019d follow that through and say it\u2019s maybe contributed to a lot of people \u2018jumping ship\u2019 or just playing whatever genres they think will fit, whereas in the \u2018old days\u2019 you\u2019d have to pick your 50 to 70 best bets and stand by them. If you weren\u2019t going down well you\u2019d have to double down and hopefully people would get it after a while.<\/p>\n<p>I lived in Brazil 2005ish and once went to play this club somewhere in Mato Grosso. It became apparent I\u2019d been booked for my \u2018gringo\u2019 status and not because they liked (or knew) what I played.<\/p>\n<p>The DJ before me was playing really laidback hotel lobby house stuff to a very \u2018showy\u2019 crowd. A very un Techno place. I had a bag of fairly obtuse techno records, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.juno.co.uk\/artists\/Green+Velvet\/?utm_source=Juno_Plus&amp;utm_medium=link&amp;utm_campaign=Juno_Plus&amp;utm_content=Juno+Daily+%26%238211%3B+In+The+Mix+%26%23038%3B+interview+%26%238211%3B+Jerome+Hill\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Green Velvet\u2019s<\/a><\/strong> \u2018Flash\u2019 would have been the most friendly thing in that bag. I went on and exhausted anything remotely housey within 15 minutes then proceeded to die for another hour and 45 minutes as people looked over at me bemused and annoyed wondering what the f**k I was doing.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.juno.co.uk\/junodaily\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/jerome-art.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-182434\"\/><\/figure>\n<p><strong>LAST YEAR YOU DROPPED <a href=\"https:\/\/www.juno.co.uk\/products\/jerome-hill-flow-mechanics-vinyl\/923227-01\/?utm_source=Juno_Plus&amp;utm_medium=link&amp;utm_campaign=Juno_Plus&amp;utm_content=Juno+Daily+%26%238211%3B+In+The+Mix+%26%23038%3B+interview+%26%238211%3B+Jerome+Hill\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">AN ALBUM FOR HYPERCOLOUR<\/a> CALLED \u2018FLOW MECHANICS\u2019 \u2013 TELL US ABOUT THAT.&nbsp;&nbsp; IS THE TITLE SOMETHING TO DO WITH A WIDER CONCEPT OR JUST A NEAT TITLE?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The title was a reference to the mechanics behind a track that enables it to flow. Or something like that. Just finding that groove and letting it flow. In fact, forget all that. Let\u2019s just say it was a neat title.
